Staying Safe

Security Alert: Tuesday, January 19, 2016

At approximately 8:50 p.m., Monday, January 18 - A University student walking out of the Reynolds Club at 5706 South University Avenue was approached by an unknown suspect who asked “directions to the nearest shelter” and if the victim had $8. The victim said he did not have any money. The suspect then displayed a handgun and asked, “Do you have any money now?” The victim fled and later reported the incident to a UCPD officer. The victim reported no injuries. The suspect is described as a white female, approximately 30-40 years-of-age, 5’5”, thin build, dressed in all white clothing.

Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Don’t resist an armed robbery unless absolutely necessary. Avoid using cell phones or other electronics while on the street. When walking, try to walk with a group or have a friend walk with you. There is safety in numbers. Familiarize yourself with the location of University emergency phones.  If you see suspicious activity, please report it immediately to the police by activating an emergency phone or by calling UCPD when you get to a safe location.  For more information about safety and security on campus, please visit
