Power Outages on Midway Crossings at Ellis and Woodlawn

APRIL 30, 2024 

Dear Members of the University Community

The University was notified this evening that the lights that illuminate the Midway Plaisance crossings on Ellis and Woodlawn Avenues are not functioning due to a power outage. The University and the City of Chicago are working swiftly to repair the cause of the outage; however we have been informed that the issue may take up to a week to resolve.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Department of Safety & Security has assigned a Safety Ambassador "green light" car to each of the crossings at Ellis and Woodlawn. The Safety Ambassadors will remain in place at each crossing during the evening and overnight hours daily until the repairs can be made.

In addition, University community members are encouraged to use University transportation options when feasible or request a safety escort by contacting UCPD at 773-702-8181 or by using the UChicago Safe mobile app.
