Kenton Rainey, Chief of Police for the University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD), will be leaving the University of Chicago effective June 30, 2021 and retiring from active law enforcement.
A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will be conducting an assessment of the University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) beginning Monday, April 12, 2021, examining all aspects of the UCPD’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. The assessment is part of the voluntary process required to be reaccredited with CALEA Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation, a recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
I am writing to share important resources and information to help you stay safe this Halloween. While the holiday will look different this year, October 31 is traditionally a time when numerous visitors come to Hyde Park to trick or treat or engage in celebratory activities.
To comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, or Clery Act, the University of Chicago provides resources to inform students, faculty, and staff about safety and security matters that impact our community. The University publishes an Annual Security & Fire Safety Report, which is one of the requirements of the Clery Act. Members of the University community are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the information included in this report.
