Closure of the Midway Plaisance East of Stony Island
The Chicago Department of Transportation and Department of Water Management will be closing North Midway Plaisance East of Stony Island on Saturday, April 15 from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to facilitate the installation of a water main.
Jackson Park Construction updates
The DuSable Lake Shore Drive and 57th Street lane modifications will continue through next month. Crews are working six days per week with the goal of opening one additional southbound turn lane as soon as possible.

Roadwork being done by the city of Chicago’s Department of Transportation at 57th and DuSable Lake Shore Drive is expected to cause significant delays. Drivers should be prepared to use alternate routes to avoid the intersection.
To allow for bridge deck repair and resurfacing, the following temporary configuration will go into place:
- Southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive will be reduced to one lane approaching the 57th Drive intersection
- Northbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive will be reduced to one lane approaching the 57th Drive intersection
- Eastbound 57th Drive approaching DuSable Lake Shore Drive will be reduced to one right turn lane and one left turn lane
Work will continue on Stony Island Avenue and Hayes Drive in their current configurations.
Drivers should obey the posted speed limits, be on the alert for workers and equipment, and pay close attention to flaggers and construction signage when entering and driving through work zones.
The city expects to have DuSable Lake Shore Drive fully opened with three lanes in each direction at 57th Drive by the end of May.
