Security Alert

At approximately 10:15 p.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2023, – Two University students walking on campus on the sidewalk at 1314 E. 58th Street observed a vehicle pull up next to them and saw two unknown subjects exit the vehicle. One suspect was armed with a knife and announced a robbery. The suspects took the victims' cellphones and wallets before entering the waiting grey Kia Sportage with Illinois plate DY19993 and driving off. The victims reported no physical injuries. The vehicle used in the commission of this robbery is believed to be the same vehicle used in several robberies in the Hyde Park area. Please contact the University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) immediately if you see or encounter this vehicle. The UCPD is investigating this crime.

Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Do not resist an armed robbery unless absolutely necessary. Avoid using cell phones or other electronic devices while on the street. When walking, try to walk with a group or have a friend walk with you. There is safety in numbers.

If you see suspicious activity, please report it immediately to police by activating an emergency phone or by calling the UCPD when you get to a safe location.
