Security Alert

At approximately 9:55 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2019 – A University student walking on the sidewalk on 59th Street at Kenwood Avenue was approached by an unknown subject who threw the victim to the ground and took the victim’s purse before fleeing southbound on foot. The victim reported no physical injuries and declined medical treatment.

Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Do not resist an armed robbery unless absolutely necessary. Avoid using cell phones or other electronic devices while on the street. When walking, try to walk with a group or have a friend walk with you. There is safety in numbers.

Familiarize yourself with the location of the University’s emergency phones. If you see suspicious activity, please report it immediately to police by activating an emergency phone or by calling the UCPD when you get to a safe location. If you are concerned about your safety as you walk within the UCPD's patrol area, call 773.702.8181 and request a safety escort. Use public transportation when possible.
