Transportation for Injured or Disabled Students

FEBRUARY 9, 2023

University support is available for students with limited mobility. While all campus bus and shuttle transportation is ADA accessible, there are two other options for UChicago students with either temporary and long-term limited mobility.

“Dial-a-Ride is for students with longer-term or permanent disabilities and these students should register with Student Disability Services to qualify,” said Beth Tindel, the Director of Transportation and Parking Services at the University of Chicago.

Dial-A-Ride provides free curb-to-curb transportation services to help students get to and from regularly scheduled classes and medical appointments on campus and at the University of Chicago Medicine complex.

Students who want to use Dial-A-Ride need to arrange service with Transportation and Parking Services at least 48 hours prior to their transport needs. Students can arrange for the Dial-A-Ride service by calling 773.795.6108 or by emailing bus@uchicago.edu.

Students with temporary mobility issues can use Injured Student Transportation by filling out the Injured Student Transportation Request Form on the Department of Safety and Security’s website.

Injured student transportation is mostly comprised of broken legs, ankles, or anything that makes walking difficult, Tindel said.

Injured student transportation can be provided on campus for classes, meals, appointments, and other University-related activities between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays, with the last scheduled pickup at 7:45 p.m.
