Hyde Park - South Kenwood

The below narrative describes three robberies that were reported the University of Chicago Police Department. The three incidents share similar characteristics, occurred within a short period of time, and occurred within close geographic proximity, suggesting a possible pattern. No physical injuries were reported by any of the victims. The Chicago Police Department is investigating the three robberies.

Friday, October 6, 2023, at approximately 10:27 p.m., 5312 S. Greenwood Avenue — Robbery — A person reported that while walking off-campus, they were approached by three unknown male suspects who demanded the victim's property before fleeing in a dark colored sedan. The victim's purse was taken but immediately discarded by the suspects with no other property taken. The victim reported no physical injuries.

Friday, October 6, 2023, at approximately 10:34 p.m., 5400 S. University Avenue — Armed Robbery — Two individuals reported that while walking off-campus, they were approached by four unknown male suspects who had exited a dark colored sedan when at least one suspect displayed a handgun as the suspects demanded the victim's property. The suspects then fled in a sedan with the victim's cellphones and other miscellaneous items. The victim reported no physical injuries.

Friday, October 6, 2023, at approximately 10:40 p.m. (reported to UCPD at 10:55 p.m.), 5118 S. Greenwood Avenue — Armed Robbery — Three individuals reported that while walking off-campus, they were approached by four unknown suspects when at least one of suspect displayed a handgun as the suspects demanded the victims' property. The suspects fled on foot with the victims' cellphones and other miscellaneous items. The victims reported no physical injuries.
