Update to road work on Stony Island

NOVEMBER 29, 2023 

The city of Chicago's Department of Transportation is continuing utility work on South Stony Island Avenue at East 59th Street, which could affect UChicago commuters.

East 59th Street will be closed to traffic at Stony Island Avenue from Monday, December 4 until Friday, December 22. The two northbound and two southbound lanes of traffic will re-open on Stony Island Avenue at the end of December.

As a result of the construction, the CTA is rerouting the 192 bus to the Midway Plaisance.

The Friend Center & Metra Route and the Midway Metra routes on the UGo Daytime Shuttle Service will be rerouted, as will the South and Central route on the UGo Shuttle's NightRide Service. The updated routes can be found on Transloc.

Work on east and westbound Midway Plaisance is now complete.
