Hyde Park - South Kenwood

The below narrative describes three robberies that were reported the University of Chicago Police Department. The three incidents share similar characteristics, occurred within a short period of time, and occurred within close geographic proximity, suggesting a possible pattern. No physical injuries were reported by any of the victims. The Chicago Police Department is investigating the three robberies.

Thursday, October 19, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., 5430 S. Kenwood — Armed Robbery — Five people walking on the sidewalk off-campus were approached by five unknown suspects that exited an older model black sedan. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and announced a robbery. The suspects took property from the victims before returning to the waiting vehicle that drove off. The victims reported no physical injuries. The Chicago Police Department is investigating this crime. 

Thursday, October 19, 2023, at approximately 11:20 p.m., 5404 S. Kimbark — Armed Robbery — Two people walking on the sidewalk off-campus were approached by four suspects who displayed handguns and demanded the victims' property. The suspects took property from the victims and fled to a waiting dark sedan that drove off. The victims reported no physical injuries. The Chicago Police Department is investigating this crime.

Thursday, October 19, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., 5200 S. Drexel — Armed Robbery — Two victims walking on the sidewalk off-campus were confronted by five suspects that exited a black sedan. The suspects, armed with handguns demanded and took property from the victims before fleeing to the waiting vehicle and driving off. The victims reported no physical injuries. The Chicago Police Department is investigating this crime.
