Hyde Park - South Kenwood
The below narrative describes three robberies that were reported the University of Chicago Police Department. The three incidents share similar characteristics, occurred within a short period of time, and occurred within close geographic proximity, suggesting a possible pattern. No physical injuries were reported by any of the victims. The Chicago Police Department is investigating the three robberies.
Saturday, October 14, 2023, at approximately 7:40 p.m., 5401 S. University — Armed Robbery — Three people walking on the sidewalk off-campus were approached by five unknown suspects who exited a white or gray hatchback. The suspects, armed with handguns, took property from the victims before returning to the waiting vehicle and driving off. No physical injuries were reported.
Saturday, October 14, 2023, at approximately 9:25 p.m., 5631 S. Kenwood — Armed Robbery —A group of people were walking on the sidewalk off-campus when a white or gray hatchback pulled up and five unknown suspects armed with handguns exited. The group of people fled, with the exception of one victim. The suspects demanded and took property from the victim before returning to the hatchback and driving off. No physical injuries were reported.
Friday, October 14, 2023, at approximately 9:55 p.m., 1121 E. 54th Street — Armed Robbery — Two people walking on the sidewalk off-campus were approached by two suspects who exited a white or gray hatchback. The two suspects, armed with handguns took property from the victims before returning the vehicle that was occupied by additional suspects. The victims reported no physical injuries.
