Subject: Hyde Park Summer Fest
Date: May 11, 2023

Hyde Park Summer Fest will take place on the Midway Plaisance on Saturday and Sunday, June 17 and 18, and is expected to result in several road closures, parking restrictions, and changes to public transportation schedules before, during, and after the festival. The festival itself is not affiliated with the University, but we are sharing preliminary information to help members of the University community and offices around campus plan ahead for potential impacts on operations. We will share further details as they become available.

  • Hyde Park Summer Fest is organized by a private company with permission from the City of Chicago. Visitors will enter the festival area on the Midway between Ellis and Woodlawn avenues. Approximately 40,000 attendees are expected to attend over the two days.
  • Road closures will begin on Thursday, June 15 and continue through Monday, June 19. We expect the closures to significantly restrict street parking around the University and impede access to some University parking facilities. We will share detailed information about road closures on the UChicago Safe social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) and on the Department of Safety & Security website once we receive final information from the event organizers.
  • Some UGo shuttle and CTA bus routes will temporarily change as a result of the road closures. Details of these changes will be shared on the UChicago Safe social media channels.
  • We ask offices around campus to prepare for potential impact of the festival, including notifying visitors, partners, and vendors in your areas who may be affected.
  • In the case of an emergency, the University will use its cAlert system to notify members of the University community and provide safety instructions.

As we receive information from the festival organizers or the City of Chicago, we will continue to update the University community with relevant information about the festival. Thank you for your ongoing attention regarding this event.
