Crime Notices
Crime Notices are timely notices about certain violent crimes that occur off campus but within the UCPD extended patrol area. As of September 15, 2024, crime notices are sent via push notifications on the UChicago Safe Mobile Safety App. The new method is intended to improve the timeliness of Crime Notices and increase access to the notices on mobile devices.
Crime notices are also posted on social media to UChicagoSafe’s Instagram, Facebook, and X pages.
An archive of crime notices dating back to 2023 can be found the Department of Safety & Security’s News and Alert page.
Crime Notices are sent for the following three types of off-campus crimes reported to the UCPD:
- Homicides.
- Confirmed shootings of persons.
- Patterns of robberies. Patterns are defined as three or more incidents with characteristics that suggest they may be related.
Other violent crimes are reported in the opt-in UCPD Daily Crime Bulletin. Subscribe.
A complete list of all crimes reported to the University of Chicago Police Department can be found on the UCPD Daily Crime Log.
