At approximately 5:15 p.m., Saturday, August 3, 2019 – Chicago police and UCPD officers responded to calls of shots fired in the area of 900 E. 58th Street. Officers discovered that the occupants of a black vehicle, going eastbound from Cottage Grove Avenue were chasing and shooting at the occupants of a silver vehicle. No one was shot; however, one occupant of the silver vehicle suffered a laceration of their hand from broken glass in the car. The suspects fled the scene. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. The Chicago police department is investigating this crime.


Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Do not resist an armed robbery unless absolutely necessary. Avoid using cell phones or other electronic devices while on the street. When walking, try to walk with a group or have a friend walk with you. There is safety in numbers.

Familiarize yourself with the location of the University’s emergency phones. If you see suspicious activity, please report it immediately to police by activating an emergency phone or by calling the UCPD when you get to a safe location.
