The University of Chicago’s security and transportation services cover campus and extend throughout much of the nearby Hyde Park neighborhood.

Among the Top 10 Best Colleges in America, the University of Chicago’s campus is one of the safest.  UChicago’s Department of Safety & Security provides services for the convenience and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and community:

  • Transportation: UGo Daytime and NightRide shuttles pick-up and drop-off within one or two blocks of most campus buildings and travel to other areas of the Hyde Park neighborhood. These free shuttles pick-up and drop-off near all on-campus residence halls.
  • Residence Security: Many undergraduate students, including all first-year students, live on-campus in residence halls. Access to residence halls is carefully monitored and guests must sign-in with housing staff at the front desk.
  • 24/7 Support: Call 773.702.8181, or 123 from a campus phone, to reach the University of Chicago Police Department, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for assistance ranging from lost & found to safety escorts.  Students seeking support and guidance can also contact an on-call University administrator at any time, by calling 773.834.HELP (4357), or 4.HELP (4357) from a campus phone. Students can also receive assistance from their Resident Assistants, Resident Heads, and Resident Masters.
