Lollapalooza to impact traffic, public transportation
JULY 25, 2025
The city of Chicago is hosting Lollapalooza in Grant Park on July 31 through August 3.
Traffic impacts in the lead up to the concert will start being noticeable to most commuters beginning the week of July 28 when there will be significant street closures around Grant Park and changes to public transportation schedules.
These changes could slow down transportation to many parts of the city, including the University of Chicago’s Hyde Park and downtown campuses.
The CTA will begin rerouting certain bus routes, including the #2 Hyde Park Express route beginning Monday, July 28.
Starting Thursday, July 31 and running through Sunday, August 3, Metra will provide extra trains with added railcars for expanded capacity and adjust schedules on most lines to accommodate the anticipated demand for ridership.
Set up for the concert will also affect the Downtown Campus Connector Shuttle, which will use the same southbound and northbound reroutes that it used for the NASCAR event starting Monday, July 28.
