Parking restrictions and street closures for the Obama Presidential Center Grand Opening
A celebration and Grand Opening Ceremony Watching Party for the Obama Presidential Center will take place on Thursday, June 18, with a viewing of the ceremony and other activities on the Midway Plaisance. Additional programing associated with the center's grand opening will take place from June 19 to June 21.
These ceremonies are expected to bring a significant number of visitors to the University of Chicago's campus and surrounding communities.
In the lead up to these events, there will be several road closures and parking restrictions near the University of Chicago's campus starting on Monday, June 8 continuing through Monday, June 22.
As of June 4, the following street closures are expected:

- Northbound traffic on Stony Island from 59th Street to 57th Street

- South Midway Plaisance from Woodlawn Avenue to Stony Island Avenue
- Cornell Drive from Stony Island Avenue to 57th Street
- Eastbound traffic on 59th Street from Harper Avenue to Stony Island Avenue
- Dorchester Avenue from 60th Street to 59th Street

- North Midway Plaisance from Ellis Avenue to Stony Island Avenue

UGo Shuttle routes will be affected by the street closures. Announcements about route changes to UGo Shuttles will be made in the Passio GO app.
The Citymapper app can be used to check CTA bus reroutes and other public transportation options.
Parking restrictions and street closures for Convocation
The University of Chicago will hold its 540th Convocation on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Convocation will take place on the Main Quadrangle at the University of Chicago's campus with the gates opening at 7 a.m.
In the lead up to the ceremony, there will be several road closures and parking restrictions on and near the University of Chicago's campus.
