Road Closures and Parking Restrictions

This page is aimed at helping keep the UChicago community and visitors informed of events, construction, and other activities that may affect traffic and parking in the campus area. We will update this page as new information becomes available.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2026

Open 4 Business Productions LLC will be filming for the TV show "Chicago Fire" in the Hyde Park neighborhood near the University of Chicago's campus on Monday, September 28 and Tuesday, September 29. Setup for the production will begin on Wednesday, September 23.

During filming, crews will simulate an emergency response to a fire, including heavy plumes of special-effects smoke on the rooftop and upper floors, fire trucks, and an aerial window rescue. Drones may also be used for filming.

To accommodate production vehicles and equipment, parking restrictions and street closures will be in effect as follows:

NO PARKING/TOW ZONES
From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, Wednesday, September 23 through Friday, September 25:

  • West side of Dorchester Avenue from 56th Street to 5542 S. Dorchester Avenue.
  • North side of 56th Street from Dorchester Avenue west to the alley.

Beginning at 10 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, through 5 p.m., Friday, September 25:

  • Both sides of Dorchester Avenue from 56th Street to 55th Place.
  • North side of 56th Street from Dorchester Avenue west to the alley.

Beginning at 10 p.m., Sunday, September 27, through 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 29:

  • South side of 55th Place from Dorchester Avenue to Blackstone Avenue.
  • Both sides of Dorchester Avenue from 55th Place to 56th Street.
  • Both sides of 56th Street from Dorchester Avenue west to the alley.

FULL STREET CLOSURES:

  • Dorchester Avenue from 55th Place to 56th Street from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, September 28, and from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29.
  • 56th Street from Kenwood Avenue to Blackstone Avenue from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, September 28.

There will also be intermittent traffic controls at various times throughout setup and filming on Dorchester Avenue and 56th Street.

Additional parking restrictions or street closures are possible. This page will be updated as additional information becomes available.
