The below narrative contains an important update regarding the robberies that were subject to an earlier Security Alert on July 11, 2026.
A suspect has been identified in the strong-armed robbery reported on campus on July 11, 2026. UCPD identified a vehicle used in the robbery through analysis of this incident using the university's license plate reader (LPR) camera network, and UCPD subsequently stopped and detained the suspect based on that information. Further investigative work by CPD, with support from UCPD and eyewitness evidence, matched the individual and items in their possession with the on-campus robbery and multiple other incidents in the Chicago area. UCPD is grateful for the collaborative work with CPD on this case, made possible in part by the LPR network.
