Security Alert

Sunday, August 4, 2019

At approximately 1:50 a.m., Sunday, August 4, 2019 – A University student walking at 1101 E 56th Street was approached from behind by an unknown person who struck the victim on the back of the head before fleeing on foot in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to the UC Medical Emergency Department by Chicago Fire Department Emergency personnel for treatment. UCPD is investigating this incident and has increased presence in the area.


Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Do not resist an armed robbery unless absolutely necessary. Avoid using cell phones or other electronic devices while on the street. When walking, try to walk with a group or have a friend walk with you. There is safety in numbers.

Familiarize yourself with the location of the University’s emergency phones. If you see suspicious activity, please report it immediately to police by activating an emergency phone or by calling the UCPD when you get to a safe location. If you are concerned about your safety as you walk within the UCPD's patrol area, call 773.702.8181 and request a safety escort. Use public transportation when possible.
