Parking Regulations and Citations

Rules

• Parking meters must be paid Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., including metered handicap spaces

• Parking is permitted only in areas designated for parking. Parking is prohibited in roadways, loading zones, fire lanes, on grass, posted “no parking” zones, or at building exits

• Parking permits are not transferable and will be revoked in the event of misrepresentation of any applicant, permit, or vehicle

• Permit parking allows one vehicle to be parked in a University-managed parking lot at any given time. If you have multiple vehicles that you drive to campus and park, it is your responsibility to register all of your vehicles with the Parking Office. If a permit holder is found to be parking more than one vehicle at a time, parking privileges may be revoked 

• Parking privileges apply only to current University students, faculty, or staff members. The unauthorized transfer of a permit will result in the permit being revoked

• All vehicles not displaying the proper parking permit will be ticketed on the first offense

• The speed limit in all campus lots is 5 mph

• Parking rules and regulations apply regardless if signs are posted

• North Campus (Ellis) Garage permit holders cannot park in the visitor section. All permit-holder vehicles found in the visitor section will be immediately ticketed and towed

• First-year undergraduates are not permitted to purchase parking permits

Citations

• Citations can be issued every four hours for the same offense

• Vehicles can be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense on the first offense

• Accumulation of five or more tickets can result in revocation of parking privileges and/or towing of the vehicle at owner’s expense. If you are a student, you also risk being restricted from other student services

A decision on an appeal will take 30 days.

You can pay your parking citations online. By clicking this link you will be directed to our payment portal. Please include the citation number or license plate number of the vehicle that received the citation. You may also contest a parking citation by filling out the Citation Appeal Form.

Parking privileges can be revoked for the following reasons:

• If a permit holder accumulates five or more tickets

• If a permit holder loans his or her ID to someone else to gain access to a gated lot. This includes carpools

• If the permit holder knowingly causes damage to the parking lot

After 60 days, all unpaid citations will be assessed a $20 late fee and sent to collections. Please contact Credit Collection Services (CCS) at 866.652.6920 with any questions if your citation was issued at least 60 days ago.

Towing

Vehicles parked illegally on University property will be towed by Rokaitis Industries at the owner’s expense. To recover your vehicle you will need to go to Rokaitis Industries at 4546 South Archer Avenue. You will be required to pay the tow fee when recovering the vehicle. You may contact Rokaitis Industries at 773.247.3195. The University assumes no responsibility for theft of or damage to any vehicle towed.

If your vehicle was towed due to unpaid parking tickets, you must pay or make arrangements to pay all unpaid citations. Failure to do so will result in repeated towing until all citations have been paid.

A vehicle is considered illegally parked when one or more of the following conditions exist:

• The vehicle is parked, without authorization, in a posted “No Parking” zone

• The vehicle has three or more unpaid University parking citations

• The vehicle has not been moved in two weeks without storage authorization
