Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)

University of Chicago police officers and dispatchers who have completed the 40-hour CIT training are knowledgeable about the signs and symptoms of mental illness. They are trained how to interact, intervene, and de-escalate situations with anyone who may need a psychiatric evaluation. CIT has shown to positively impact officer perceptions, decrease the need for higher levels of police interventions, decrease officer injuries, and redirect those in crisis from the criminal justice system to the health care system.

If someone you know is threatening to harm him or herself or others, immediately call 911 or the University of Chicago Police Department at 773.702.8181.
