Campus Parking

The University provides a variety of transportation and parking options to students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the UChicago community. Transportation offerings are designed to serve and support members of the campus community and our surrounding neighbors to travel on and around campus safely and efficiently.

Parking at UChicago

Visitor Parking

Several options exist around campus for visitor parking. These lots include: Young, 1155/Harris, New Graduate Residence, Chapin, McGiffert, Dorchester, and the community lot at the corner of East 60th Street and Stony Island Avenue. The visitor parking rate at University-operated lots is $4 an hour.

Ellis Garage (Campus North Parking) is another option for visitor parking. Effective October 1, 2015, visitor parking rates at Ellis Garage are:

    0-2 hours - $8
    2-3 hours - $16
    3-4 hours - $20
    4-24 hours - $25

Pay By Phone Parking

The University of Chicago is piloting a Pay By Phone parking service that allows you to pay for parking in six of the University lots by app, phone, or online. More information about this program will be available closer to its launch date.

Permit Parking

Parking permits are available to faculty, staff, and students on a first come, first serve basis. Permits can be purchased monthly, quarterly, or annually. Fees can be paid for with checks, credit card (Visa/MasterCard only), payroll deduction, or Form 62. To apply for parking please fill out and return the Parking Application. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to renew or cancel their parking permit. All permits expire on the date indicated on the permit hangtag. There will be a $25 penalty fee for renewals after the expiration date.

Permit fees are as follows, as of October 1, 2015:

  • $205/month: Lexington
  • $90/month: Ellis Garage, Young, Judd, International House
  • $90/month: Wells, Faculty Apartments, Woodlawn Social Services Center, Edelstone, Law, 1155/Harris, Kimbark, New Graduate Residence, Chapin, 6054/Kenwood, Dorchester, McGiffert House

Parking rates include any required City of Chicago and Cook County parking taxes.

While the University of Chicago Police Department patrols the parking lots, a parking permit does not include or imply security protection for your vehicle. The University assumes no responsibility for theft of, from, or damage to any vehicle.
