First Transit Will Continue To Provide Shuttle Service To Campus

The University of Chicago has entered into a new contract for transportation services with its current shuttle service provider, First Transit Inc. Under the agreement, effective August 1, 2017, First Transit will provide a new fleet of vehicles to campus and several other enhancements to its transportation service.

The agreement calls for a new fleet of 19 heavy-duty shuttle buses and two paratransit vans. All shuttles will be the same age and model, allowing for a more cohesive looking fleet. The new shuttles will have double doors to allow for better alighting of riders. Additionally, the new fleet will be ADA accessible.

The contract also calls for an improved shuttle tracking system which will be available for mobile use; a more robust system of obtaining ridership numbers; and advertising panels available for use by the campus community.

The new vehicles are tentatively scheduled to arrive on campus before the end of 2017.
