Utility work on the Midway Plaisance and Stony Island Avenue

AUGUST 30, 2023

The city of Chicago's Department of Transportation will begin utility work on South Stony Island Avenue at East 59th Street and on westbound Midway Plaisance, which could affect UChicago commuters.

Work on westbound Midway Plaisance is scheduled to begin on Friday, September 1. Traffic will be reduced to one lane west of Stony Island until approximately October 15.

Once work on the Midway Plaisance is complete, CDOT will begin work on East 59th Street at Stony Island.

East 59th Street will be closed to traffic at South Stony Island from October 16 until approximately November 15.

A map provided the Chicago Department of Transportation showing detour routes and alternate access to 59th Street when construction starts in October 2023.

Some UGo Shuttle routes will be re-routed to avoid the construction.
