Hyde Park Summer Fest: Impacts on street closures, parking, and public transportation

JUNE 12, 2023  

Hyde Park Summer Fest will take place on the Midway Plaisance on Saturday, June 17, and Sunday, June 18, and will result in multiple road closures, parking restrictions, and changes to public transportation schedules before, during, and after the festival. 

The festival is not affiliated with the University, but we are sharing detailed information about closures to help members of the University community and offices around campus plan for potential impacts on operations.

Street Closures
Street closures will begin on a rolling basis near the University of Chicago's campus starting on Tuesday, June 13.

  • Tuesday, June 13 — Thursday, June 22
    • Eastbound Midway Plaisance from South Woodlawn Avenue to South Blackstone Avenue
  • Wednesday, June 14 — Thursday, June 22
    • South Woodlawn Avenue from East 59th Street to 60th Street Midway Bridge
    • Westbound Midway Plaisance from South Woodlawn Avenue to South Blackstone Avenue
  • Thursday, June 15 — Thursday, June 22
    • South Dorchester Avenue from East 59th Street to East 60th Street Midway Bridge
    • Eastbound and Westbound Midway Plaisance from South Ellis Avenue to South Blackstone Avenue
  • Friday, June 16 — Thursday, June 22
    • Eastbound and Westbound Midway Plaisance from South Ellis Avenue to Stony Island Avenue
  • Saturday, June 17 — Monday, June 19
    • Eastbound and Westbound Midway Plaisance from Cottage Grove Avenue to Stony Island Avenue
    • Ellis Avenue from East 59th Street to East 60th Street Midway Bridge
    • East 59th Street from South Ellis Avenue to South Dorchester Avenue
    • East 60th Street from South Ellis Avenue to South Dorchester Avenue
  • Sunday, June 18
    • Ellis Avenue from East 59th Street to East 60th Street Midway Bridge until 11 p.m.

Parking Restrictions
Several parking restrictions will also take effect in the area around the University of Chicago's campus beginning on Monday, June 12 lasting until Thursday, June 22.

    • Eastbound Midway Plaisance from South Ellis Avenue to South Dorchester Avenue
  • Wednesday, June 14 — Thursday, June 22
    • Westbound Midway Plaisance from South Ellis Avenue to South Dorchester Avenue
  • Thursday, June 15 — Tuesday, June 20
    • The south side of East 59th Street from South Ellis Avenue to South Dorchester Avenue
    • The north side of East 60th Street from South Ellis Avenue to South Dorchester Avenue
  • Saturday, June 17 — Monday, June 19
    • East 59th Street from Cottage Grove Avenue to South Dorchester Avenue
    • East 60th Street from Cottage Grove Avenue to South Dorchester Avenue
  • Monday, June 19 — Wednesday, June 21
    • The south side of East 59th Street from South Woodlawn Avenue to South Dorchester Avenue
    • The north side of East 60th Street from South Ellis Avenue to South Dorchester Avenue
UGo Shuttles

The festival will also result in the following reroutes of the South and Central UGo NightRide Shuttles from Thursday, June 15 lasting until Sunday, June 18:

  • South will stage at the Logan Center and proceed along the route as follows:
    • East 60th Street to South Ellis Avenue
    • South Ellis Avenue to East 61st Street
    • East 61st Street to South Woodlawn Avenue
    • South Woodlawn Avenue to East 60th Street
    • East 60th Street to the regular route
  • Central will proceed along the route as follows:
    • East 59th Street to South Ellis Avenue
    • South Dorchester Avenue to East 61st Street
    • East 61st Street to South Ellis Avenue
    • South Ellis Avenue to East 60th Street
    • East 60th Street to Cottage Grove Avenue
    • Cottage Grove Avenue to East 57th Street
    • East 57th Street to South Ellis Avenue
    • South Ellis Avenue to the regular route
