Mitigation Operations

Mitigation is the process of reducing or eliminating the potential impacts or consequences of an identified threat.  Proper mitigation operations identify and target individuals and property most at risk during an emergency and takes actions to limit their exposure.

The Mitigation Section of the EMP summarizes the major activities undertaken and during this phase.

Vulnerability Analysis

A vulnerability analysis was conducted to identify at-risk populations within campus and facilities prone to the effects of common disasters.  This analysis focuses mitigation activities on vulnerabilities of the University, which can be exacerbated by an emergency.

Risk Management

The University’s Risk Management Team works to identify and minimize risk that adversely affects people, property, and the mission of the University by managing the University’s insurance and self-insurance programs and advising units regarding methods to control risk.
