The Campus Safety Division includes Law Enforcement Systems, Professional Accountability, Security Systems, Clery compliance, oversight of the Allied Universal security services contract, and security for the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools and Charter School campuses.
The University’s Emergency Management program outlines strategies to protect the life safety of University students, faculty, and staff, and to preserve University property and assets in the event of an emergency. Emergency Management also oversees the University's Emergency Communications Center.
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) develops and coordinates the University’s safety and environmental programs. The programs cover areas such as industrial hygiene, fire safety, inspections, training, plan review, laser safety, environmental issues, ergonomics, and regulatory compliance.
Functional areas such as finance, budget, procurement, payroll, and communications are housed within the Management Services unit. These individual functions support the entire department.
Transportation & Parking Services helps University of Chicago affiliates with their transit and parking needs on campus, in the neighboring communities, and in the greater Chicago area. This unit manages contracts with vendors providing shuttle service throughout the day and night, bus service through the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), parking services, as well as alternative transportation programs and options.
The University of Chicago Police Department is a full-service police department patrolling and serving the University of Chicago campus and neighboring communities from 37th Street to the north, 64th Street to the south, Cottage Grove Avenue to the west, and Lake Shore Drive to the east. UCPD officers are state certified with full police powers and serve the University and surrounding communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The University's Protective Services unit, which coordinates security implementation for the University's global interest and manages dignitary protection, is also part of the UCPD.
